News: New executive chairman for Chamber
Former Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council chief executive Mike Cuff has been named as the new independent executive chairman of the board at Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber.
The announcement was made by the new Chamber presidents at the annual general meeting.
Cuff left the authority in the summer after over five years in the role. On his retirement he said: "Rotherham is a great place with great people in the public, private and voluntary sectors who I have no doubt, will continue to work together to make the improvements that local residents and businesses want to see despite the current challenging times."
The two presidents, Richard Horner and Chris MacCormac, also described the Chamber's collective vision and unified approach at the meeting.
Mr Horner said: "I am very much looking forward to building on the good working relationship that Chris MacCormac and I have already developed and, also, to working with all our members and partners.
"We must ensure we have a strong representative voice on behalf of our members with our partners, local and central government. We have a major influence but this will only be taken seriously if we are totally representative of our members' views."
Mr MacCormac added: "I look forward with great excitement, to the new era of oneness - one board, one council and eventually one President. This oneness extends to our member voice.
"To represent our members, we need a strong Chamber and a strong Chamber needs its members to be active and involved."
The elections of two new Chamber Board members were also announced, the Rotherham Vice-President Jane Waring - Partner at Waring Associates - and non-executive director Ian Carey - Chief Executive at Barnsley Hospice.
