News: New principal at Dearne Valley College

Paul Townsley has been appointed as Principal at Dearne Valley College (DVC) in Rotherham.

As a previous member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), Paul was responsible for the college's Curriculum and Standards covering the development and quality of provision across College.

Paul graduated from Leeds University and worked in industry as a marine exploration geophysicist and electrical/electronic engineer, he qualified to teach in 1995. As Director of Technology and Skills at North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, he developed innovative projects and raised standards across curriculum areas to Ofsted "Outstanding" status.

He has worked in a variety of posts at Peoples College in Nottingham, Chesterfield College and Telford College of Arts and Technology. During his time at Telford College, Paul successfully led on a series projects including the Centre of Vocational Excellence in Engineering, 14-16 Young Apprenticeships and became an Inspector for Ofsted. In 2009 Paul was awarded a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Lincoln.

Paul Townsley, DVC Principal said: "Since my appointment as Vice Principal at the College in January 2010 I have seen the positive impact that the College has in providing outstanding education and training for the community.

"As Principal I look forward to working with the enthusiastic and skilled teams at DVC to develop innovative practices that will enable the college to provide further opportunities for all its communities.

"My aim is to ensure the college continues to provide educational excellence, courses of the highest quality and to develop new partnerships that enhance the college's reputation and standing locally, regionally and nationally."

Paul takes over from Sue Ransom, who has retired after seven years at the college and 40 years in education. Sue hasn't decided what to do next, her immediate priority is to take a break and then decide.
