News: Bramall wins extra care housing contract

By

Rotherham social housing contractor and developer Bramall Construction has won a contract to expand a supported sheltered housing scheme and create Extra Care facilities in Skipton, helping to promote independent living in North Yorkshire.

Bramall Construction will start the £3.3m project at Woodlands Drive in March on behalf of The Abbeyfield Society, a national charity providing housing with support and care to older people.

The project includes the construction of an Extra Care scheme comprising 31 one and two bedroom apartments with communal facilities including a laundry, restaurant/dining, lounge and wellbeing area. The existing supported sheltered house will be refurbished creating five one bedroom apartments.

This will be the first scheme in North Yorkshire to work in partnership supporting the PCT preventative agenda via tele-health and tele-medicine linked in acting as a portal to the Skipton and Airedale hospitals, through the inclusion of a well being suite where consultations, video conferencing, therapies, advice and training can take place

Local stone and materials will be used on the scheme so that it is in keeping with surrounding buildings.

The project secured funding through the Homes & Communities Agency and is due for completion in September 2012.
