News: Rotherham Ready takes primary students into the unknown

By

Over 40 Rotherham primary students recently ventured into the unknown at Sheffield Hallam University.

"Venture into the Unknown" was an enterprising experience organised and co-ordinated by the UK's leading enterprise programme, Rotherham Ready and the award winning Venture Matrix team at Sheffield Hallam University.

The opportunity to create an enterprising experience for Rotherham primary students was made available to groups of students studying at Sheffield Hallam University through the Venture Matrix scheme.

The winning group worked closely with Rotherham Ready in order to build on the existing enterprise skills of Rotherham primary students whilst still offering them a creative challenge to design the new best-selling Valentine's retail product of 2011.

Rotherham teaching staff on the day said: "This has been an amazing experience for our students. The opportunity to visit a University and work directly with the students doesn't come along very often so we snapped it up."

The Venture Matrix University students hosted and delivered an amazing event which not only helped to develop enterprise skills for Rotherham primary students but which also helped to raise aspirations and widen the opportunities open to these young people.

One Rotherham student commented, "This has been the best day. I really want to go to University. I want to be a vet."

Rotherham Ready hopes to continue to provide opportunities like this for all students in the area and will ensure that the recent title awarded to the borough, of "Most enterprising place in the UK", really is fitting for Rotherham's future generations.
