News: Middlesbrough Advanced Manufacturing Park

By

The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham is set to be copied in the North East after Middlesbrough Council formally approved the creation of a similar park on the site of the former South West Ironmasters Works.

The AMP in Rotherham is the UK's premier advanced manufacturing technology park and enjoys a global reputation for providing world-class manufacturing technology solutions for industry. It is home to the University of Sheffield, Boeing, Rolls Royce and Dormer Tools.

Now, people who worked on aspects of the AMP are working with Middlesbrough Council on a 32 acre site which could become a major location for manufacturing companies with a strong emphasis on research and development. The Middlesbrough Advanced Manufacturing Park will focus on the energy sector and its supply chain, and in particular the stimulation of activities in the emerging renewable energy sector.

Wynyard Park Ltd is the developer behind the new park and they have recently appointed Paul Barber as managing director. Paul is currently managing director of Strategic Sites, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wynyard Park, who are working in a joint venture with UK Coal to develop commercial property on the AMP in Rotherham.

AED, a company specialising in devising new economic initiatives, is also working on the plans. With offices in Rotherham, AED is headed by Joe Anwyl, who worked for Creative Sheffield on assisting inward investors and business development at the AMP. Other contacts at AED include Gene DePrez and Andy Curtis, also formerly of Creative Sheffield.

Paul Barber, managing director of Wynyard Park Ltd, said: "We will combine all the experience we have gathered at the Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Park and our track record here at Wynyard Park to help bring many new, highly-skilled jobs to Middlesbrough."

Joe Anwyl, director at AED International added: "We are presented with the unparalleled opportunity to develop an energy-focused manufacturing and R&D park in Middlesbrough. The site will develop new technologies and manufacturing techniques for the UK's renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.

"This development could not only create jobs and attract inward investment but could be an enabler of wider economic development by affirming Middlesbrough's position as one of the UK's leading locations for manufacturing excellence in the offshore sector."
