News: AESSEAL amongst UK's best manufacturers

Rotherham engineering firm, AESSEAL, has been named amongst the best 21 manufacturers in the UK by making the shortlist of IMeche's Manufacturing Excellence programme.


Run by The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the MX Awards are the UK's longest running business awards of its kind and were established nearly 30 years ago to protect manufacturing and promote best practice.

With their global headquarters at Templeborough, AESSEAL specialise in the design and manufacture of mechanical seals, bearing protectors and environmental control systems. Last year they were shortlisted in six of the ten award categories and picked up the PricewaterhouseCoopers Award for Customer Focus, an award they also won in 2006.

As part of the Manufacturing Excellence programme, companies are asked to conduct an in-depth self assessment and those who complete one or more of the eight parts receive a free, bespoke and confidential benchmark report. The best companies in each module receive a visit from a team of expert assessors who verify the audit responses and offer practical advice and suggestions for the business. The winning companies in each category then receive an award at the 2011 MX Ceremony in London in November.

Yorkshire was the most successful region in this first stage of the programme with three firms named as finalists. Stephen Tetlow, chief executive at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said: "Manufacturing is at the heart of Yorkshire's history and future, and these three companies show that the area is full of the innovation and skills essential to helping the country’s economy recover.

"It's fitting that following Vince Cable's call for MPs to find examples of great UK manufacturing as part of the "Made by Britain" project, we can show that Yorkshire is a centre for excellent manufacturing."
