News: Dearne Valley College and Langdons help careers get moving

By

Dearne Valley College is collaborating with logistics giant, Langdons, to offer 20 exclusive places on a brand new Logistics training programme for 16-18 year old candidates.

With a depot in Barnsley, Langdons is a national logistics expert specialising in controlled temperature operations. Approximately 25,000 pallets of frozen and chilled palletised foods per week pass through its operations.

The scheme is the very first of its kind in South Yorkshire for young people and is an excellent career opportunity for those looking to pursue a future in the Logistics industry. The programme will provide a variety of qualifications to ensure students are fully equipped, including a Level 2 Certificate in Logistics and a Level 2 Award in Customer Services, as well as further qualifications in Fork Lift Truck Training, Manual Handling, and Food & Hygiene training. Candidates will also complete Functional Skills qualifications in English and Mathematics. The programme will be split between practical, hands-on training at the Barnsley depot, and study at Dearne Valley College to gain the underpinning theory.

This exclusive opportunity is open to all 16-18 year old candidates, and Langdons are looking for the right type of person rather than the right type qualifications. By choosing this programme, candidates will also benefit from the fantastic support available from the college, including industry experienced tutors and excellent on-site facilities.

Following the completion of the programme, five of the candidates may be selected to progress onto a full Level 3 Apprenticeship with the company, with the wage set much higher than the national minimum Apprenticeship rate, at an impressive £4.50 per hour, with the potential for this to progress to a full-time position. The remaining candidates will be supported by Dearne Valley College, utilising their local links with the industry to help them progress onto the next step of their careers.

The college is also hosting a free business conference on Friday June 21 including keynote speakers on the important issues of social media and business crime.
