News: Fast growing Rotherham exporters amongst Britain's best

By

Leading Rotherham companies, MTL Group and C.F. Booth, have both been named amongst Britain's private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

Published this weekend, the fourth annual Sunday Times International Track 200 ranks Britain's mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales, measured over their latest two years of available accounts. It is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford company that researches Britain's top-performing private companies.

Manufacturing specialist, MTL Group has risen over 100 places from 150th in 2012 to 30th overall in 2013 with exports growing to £7.3m in 2012 thanks to customers, including Caterpillar and BAE Systems, in continental Europe, America, the Middle East and South Africa.

Over the two years, international sales at MTL grew annually by an impressive 102%.

MTL Group is one of Europe's fastest growing project manufacturing specialists in the metal sector and is a global exporter of secondary steelwork. It works with a global blue-chip customer base in the defence, construction equipment, rail and off-shore wind energy sectors.

The rise in exports followed the move to a £5m, 300,00 sq ft state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Brinsworth in 2011. The company is aiming to increase exports in the rail sector, recently securing accreditation to EN 15085 Category 1 for welding rail vehicles or their welded parts.

Karl Stewart, sales director at MTL Group, said: "This accreditation opens many doors for MTL Group and presents us with the opportunity to increase our supply to the UK and to mainland Europe as well."

Ranked at 150th (83rd in 2012), C.F. Booth reported a massive £148m in international sales for the period ended March 2012.

Established in 1920 as a scrapyard, CF Booth now recycles a range of ferrous and non-ferrous products and makes copper-based ingots and forged parts for the marine industry. The company exports throughout Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, Asia, Australasia and South America.

International sales grew by 35% annually over the two years and growth is expected to come from the managing and recycling of high value aerospace and marine special alloys.

Their Clarence Metal Works on Armer Street is thought to be the largest scrapyard in Europe and the firm is managed by Booth brothers Ken and James.

Former director and the man that helped to make the company what it is today, Ken Booth Sr. died recently, aged 91.
