News: Ree-Cycle in the frame for business success

By

An enterprising Rotherham man has turned his passion for classic BMX bicycles into a business by launching Ree-Cycle, Rotherham's premier second hand bike store.

Based on the Barbot Hall industrial estate, the environmentally-friendly business has been established by Glynne Ensor and his wife Keeley with free help from Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.

Ree-Cycle provides quality second hand and vintage bikes and specialises in new and reconditioned, BMX, Lowrider and dirt bikes as well as stunt scooters and beachcruisers.

Glynne Ensor, owner of Ree-Rcycle, said: "Since we opened our doors in September, we have received a really positive response with many people saying we have struck on a great idea.

"The bikes we sell are put together by hand with care and our customers really like that personal touch. The bonus is that we are helping the environment by using parts and bikes that would otherwise have been destroyed."

The startup business received assistance from the Chamber through the Regional Enterprise Programme (funded by ERDF), in the form of marketing tips from Business Advisor Jav Khan.

Keeley Ensor, director at Ree-Cycle, said: "Jav explained the ways in which we could get the Ree-Cycle name out there, using our website, our Facebook page and Google. He also steered us towards some different avenues we hadn't considered, such as getting in touch with the Bolehills BMX track in Sheffield and using online biking forums to generate interest.

“As we have created a show area in our workshop, Jav advised us on making it customer friendly without losing the welcoming feel which has been generated by people dropping in to look around and chat about biking. You can sometimes feel alone when starting a business, so the free help from the Chamber has been really welcome."
