News: Rotherham companies offer top placements

By

Rotherham companies are working on a project that aims to link students, universities and companies together in the advanced engineering and metals (AEM) sector. Universities and companies have worked together with AEMStudents to deliver placements for materials scientist/engineering students offering them the chance to gain practical experience working within the AEM sector. For students, the placements consist of two nine-week paid industrial summer placements within an AEM sector company. The nine-week programme will also include a one-week summer school. For companies, this provides a fantastic opportunity to work with students and to guide their development, whilst they deliver results for the business. It is hoped that following succesful placements, companies will be able to offer full-time employment on graduation. Rotherham based companies, London and Scandinavian Metallurgical (LSM), Corus and Newburgh Engineering are already offering placements. Run by NAMTEC in Rotherham, the programme is being sponsored by Yorkshire Forward and is part of the Higher Level Skills Programme.
