News: U-Explore does the job in Lincolnshire
Hundreds of pupils are using U-Explore interactive, an innovative software solution which engages with young people through cutting edge media.
Developed for Lincolnshire County Council with the help of local employers, the innovative project enables 15-year-olds to use video case studies, 360-degree tours and interactive programmes to get a better insight into careers.
Stuart Marston, a teacher at North Kesteven School in North Hykeham, has pioneered the use of U-Explore and says it has been a big help to pupils who are looking for a career.
He said: "If a pupil wanted to be a plasterer, they can find out what it's like, what skills they need and how to get into it.
"U-Explore provides a chance to experience what the work is like and see if it's right for them. They can use it on their own to explore careers and see if there's something they like the look of."
And it is already a hit with the pupils. "It's gone down really well," said Stuart. "Because it uses the sort of technology they are comfortable with – like computers and game consoles – it puts them in the driving seat.
"It's a real motivator for the pupils. There's lots to grab their attention and the whole thing is really well designed. It's proved very popular."
