News: SP Containers wins Queen's Award for Enterprise
SP Containers, the Rotherham-based producer of high quality paperboard containers has won the Queen's Award for Enterprise 2011 for International Trade.
The awards are recognised as the UK's highest accolade for business success and are made annually by HM The Queen.
They are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category. They are judged to a demanding level and winners receive a number of benefits and worldwide recognition.
SP Containers has won a Queen's Award for the first time for its outstanding achievement in growing overseas sales by 261% over the last three years to a total of over £3m in that period.
The company, which has recently moved to Aldwarke, offers high quality innovative and specialist solutions for various packaging requirements. They manufacture containers for clients in the ice cream, dairy, confectionery and pet food sectors, and produce secondary packaging for a diverse range of products.
They supply the major European ice cream producers as well as major UK retailers and food producers. They also have strong export business into Continental European, Scandinavian and Baltic markets.
Paul Nixon, managing director at SP Containers said: "In September 2010 SP Containers moved to a new factory, remaining in Rotherham and continues to grow and expand.
"Being awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade is one of the proudest moments in SP Containers short history.
"This achievement could not have been made without the dedication of all its employees."
Established in 2006, SP Containers employs 18 staff. Earlier this month Sweden's A&R Carton acquired an additional 34% of the shares of the company and now holds a majority position of 67%.
Manufacturer, AESSEAL also picked up the same award. The Rotherham firms are two of just 102 companies that have won awards for international trade this year.
