News: Funding bids invited by Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership

By

The Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is inviting applications from potential Projects and Programmes for Round 2 of the Government's Regional Growth Fund (RGF).

Round 2 of the RGF invites submissions from both Projects and Programmes – the key difference being that Programme bids must demonstrate a clear over-arching investment strategy for a specific geographical area, rather than for individual sites.

The LEP will provide endorsement for eligible Project bids and, where possible, play a co-ordinating role for suitable programme bids within the City Region.

James Newman, Chairman of the LEP, said: "The Partnership has a key role to play in bringing together stakeholders from across the City Region and, in particular, is keen to have a co-ordinating role for Programme bids to the Fund as far as possible, while providing its backing to suitable strategic Project bids.

"We want to see submissions which demonstrate a significant contribution to the LEP's objectives and priorities for the City Region and crucially that they contribute to economic growth and the creation of jobs and private sector investment."

In Round 1, Doncaster Council and its private sector partners secured £18m from the Fund to progress The Gateway to the Sheffield City Region project. 21 bids were submitted from the Sheffield City Region to the fund under round 1 with the Local Enterprise Partnership Board endorsing bids for FARRRS, Chesterfield Waterside, Markham Vale and the Barnsley Dearne Employment and Housing Growth Initiative.
