News: KCM Waste Management grow commercial commitment with Millers

Long-term supporters KCM Waste Management has extended its commercial agreement with Rotherham United.

KCM is a family-run waste management company based at the Barbot Hall Industrial Estate nad had seen their name become synonymous with the club since it moved to AESSEAL New York Stadium, where their branding has proudly adorned the North Stand since it opened in 2012.

In addition to that, the company headed up by Phil and Mark Hickling have also pledged their support to the next generation of Millers talent for over a decade, having also laid claim to the front of shirt sponsorship of the academy kit.

The extension of the stand sponsorship deals will run for a further three years while the Academy shirt agreement has once again been penned on a seasonal basis until the end of the 2025/26 campaign. KCM has also added the sponsorship of the South West Corner of AESSEAL New York Stadium to its portfolio of commercial projects which also includes sponsorship of the home dugout and the substitutions made by Matt Hamshaw on a matchday.

News: KCM joins Sophie’s cancer fight

It’s being billed as the Battle of the Waste Companies…and its aiming to raise at least £10,000 to help a young Rotherham mum fighting her own battle against terminal cancer.

Sophie White was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour two years ago and underwent major brain surgery that successfully removed 95 per cent of the cancer.

But 23-year-old Sophie - who is mum to two-year-old Remi - was then diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma and was told she had just a one-year life expectancy.

Treatments available from the NHS are no longer effective so fundraising efforts have commenced to help Sophie receive pioneering life-prolonging immunotherapy in Germany.

This treatment costs £200,000, with the Rotherham community already raising more than £80,000 towards the cost.

Now Rotherham Company KCM Waste Management has stepped in to host a major sporting event that aims to raise at least £10,000 to ensure that Sophie continues to receive the treatment she so desperately needs.

The Battle of the Waste Companies will be held at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on Friday May 9 and will see a team from KCM take on a team from Fawkes Recycling.

The special football event has already won the support of celebrities like Coronation Street star Steven Arnold and South Yorkshire boxing legend Johnny Nelson, both of whom have filmed video messages supporting Sophie.

“As soon as we heard Sophie’s story, we all knew we wanted to do something to help,” said KCM Director of Finance and Operations Emma Hickling.

“My partner Scott already raised more than £7,000 by taking part in a moustache growing challenge so we knew that we wanted to do something that would raise even more money for such an important cause.

“It’s not only that Sophie is a Rotherham girl and we like to think that we look after our own - there’s also a much more personal reason why we want to support the fundraising.

“We lost my sister-in-law Fiona to cancer when she was a young mum and we know how happy we would have been if there had been any treatment that would have prolonged her life and allowed her to spend just a little more time with her precious children.

“Sophie’s story really hits home to everybody at KCM and we are are determined to do everything we can to give her those extra days to share with her son.”

The May 9 match will kick off at 7pm, with spectators paying a minimum donation of £5 each to see the KCM team take on their friendly waste management rivals.

The evening will also include a fundraising raffle and auction as well as entertainment from rising Rotherham star Lil Charva, who was most recently featured in acclaimed Netflix drama Adolescence.

Companies who have already signed on as shirt sponsors include Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber Of Commerce, 360 Scaffolding Services, Assett Go, IFS Insurance, Blue Machinery, Appollo Fuels, Trans Global, KPL Plastering Services, 1st Call and Blackburn Material Solutions.

“We have already had a fantastic response from the Rotherham business community and so many have gladly jumped on board to support us but there are still plenty more sponsorship opportunities available and we would also welcome as many auction and raffle prizes as possible,” said KCM Commercial Manager Ellie Hickling.

“We know this is going to be a fun night and what we would love most of all is to see the New York Stadium full of people cheering for Sophie and her family as we raise as much money as impossible for such a deserving cause.”

News: KCM extend home end sponsorship

KCM Waste Management has signed a new three-year deal with Rotherham United, which will see its branding continue to adorn the North Stand at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Based on Greasborough Road, KCM specialise in recycling, trade waste and skip hire. The Millers have worked closely with them since moving into their new home in 2012, with KCM's managing director Phil Hickling a familiar face around the club as a result of his ongoing support activity both on and off the field.

Supporters of the club will be familiar with the KCM branding through its association with the North Stand, which has proudly carried it's branding since the Millers moved to its new home six years ago, whilst the company are also renowned for their waste disposal services in Rotherham and its surrounding areas.

News: Millers show support for local hospices

Over the festive football period, Rotherham United club partners 3aaa and KCM Recycling donated hospitality tables at two events at AESSEAL New York Stadium to local hospices.

3aaa is England's largest training provider of Leadership and Management programmes and Rotherham-based KCM Recycling specialise in recycling, trade waste and skip hire.

The annual Chairman's Christmas Ball saw staff and volunteers from the Rotherham Hospice and Bluebell Wood Hospice join the players, staff and Millers Chairman Tony Stewart in the lounge at AESSEAL New York Stadium for the festive gathering, before staff, parents and children from Bluebell Wood Hospice tasted the VIP treatment as Match Sponsors for the New Year's Day game with Blackburn Rovers.

Mark Hitchens, head of commercial at Rotherham United, said: "It is always a pleasure to see representatives from both the Rotherham and Bluebell Wood hospices down here at the club, as I know many of our supporters have seen or experienced first-hand the wonderful service that they provide for the community."

Diane Keeley, head of patient and family support services at the Rotherham Hospice, added: "We were once again honoured to be asked to attend the Chairman's Christmas Ball at Rotherham United and are very grateful to the people at 3aaa for the opportunity to do so."

The only adult hospice in Rotherham for the people of Rotherham, Rotherham Hospice is an independent charity and must raise significant sums of money each year in order to pay for the quality care provided free of charge to patients, their families and carers.

Members of Rotherham United's playing and first team staff enjoyed afternoon tea with the patients and staff this week in a community visit to the Broom-based charity.

Millers legend John Breckin, now a consultant at the club, said: "It is a charity very close to my own heart and one that we are lucky to have and be proud to call our own here in Rotherham, so I was delighted so many of us were able to go up there and show our support for the work that they do.

"I know how proud the club are of their strong affiliation with both the Rotherham and Bluebell Wood hospices so we are delighted to have visited both over the course of the last month."

Based at North Anston, Bluebell Wood provides care and support to families who have a child who has a life limiting condition and is not expected to live into adulthood. It has to raise over £4m each year to continue its work, and receives less than 10% statutory funding.

Millers midfielder Will Vaulks has become Bluebell Wood's newest ambassador. Will asked Bluebell Wood if he could volunteer after signing for the League One club in July 2016. Since then he has worked at the hospice every week, volunteering with the fundraising team, and also supporting the care team that looks after children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions.

Will (pictured above) said: "It's a privilege to do my bit for such a worthwhile cause. Since I first came to Rotherham United I've become aware of the valuable work Bluebell Wood does for families facing the toughest times of their lives. I'd like to continue doing my best to help this charity raise funds and encourage more supporters from across the region to give their best."

Anna Gott, community fundraiser at Bluebell Wood (pictured above), added: "Will has been a brilliant support here at the hospice. He's also inspired a lot of his team mates at Rotherham to do their bit by making numerous clothes and toy donations to our shops. He recently came along to our Fun-draising Club Christmas party, which was a great surprise for our members, and really involved himself in all the party games, thanking all our young fundraisers for their support and hard work.

"We're delighted to have Will on board as an ambassador and are sure he'll continue to do a fantastic job spreading the word about Bluebell Wood."

News: Rotherham waste firm bags £500k funding boost

KCM Waste Management has secured a £500,000 business loan from NatWest and a seven-figure investment from asset finance provider Lombard as it expands its Rotherham operations.

The family firm was established 30 years ago and provides waste disposal services to commercial and domestic clients across South Yorkshire from its base at Gin House Lane, where the expanding company has purchased further land for expansion.

An adjacent site was up until recently used by another company (Balmforth Transport) and was sandwiched between two KCM sites. Balmforth vacated the site and KCM stepped in to purchase it. A parcel of land to the North has recently been granted planning permission to be used by KCM as part of its waste management business for storage and distribution and permission was subsequently granted on the new site for a haulage yard and storage and distribution centre.

The whole site reconfiguration will include the relocation of head offices back to Gin House Lane where up to ten new jobs are set to be created.

Emma Hickling, financial controller at KCM Waste, said: "We have identified several opportunities to consolidate and expand, so this investment comes at a perfect time for the business.

"The process of working with NatWest, the funding partners and our accountants Brearley & Co has been very collaborative and we have been involved and kept informed every step of the way."

The funding packages were achieved through collaboration between the Hickling family, NatWest, Lombard, RBS Invoice Finance and Brearley & Co Accountants.

Mark Smallman of Brearley & Co, said: "The implementation of improved financial systems has enabled the directors to receive regular accurate management accounts.

"Frequent meetings regarding finance have provided the directors with the information and confidence to invest in assets that are streamlining operations at KCM Waste."

A fire destroyed the original KCM offices in 2013 and the funding will enable the owners to add new income streams to existing waste management, recycling, collection and skip hire services.

Lombard, the asset finance provider which began hiring out rolling stock to the railways as the North Central Wagon and Finance Company in Rotherham in 1861, has also injected a seven-figure sum into the business, which will be used to purchase, install and operate an energy efficient biomass boiler.

Aaron Carter, senior relationship manager at NatWest, added: "Over the past five years KCM Waste has achieved strong growth, increasing its workforce and giving back to the area by supporting community assets and facilities.

"The Hickling family has a clear strategy for long-term growth and this funding will allow them to identify new revenue streams while improving the day-to-day operations of the business."

News: Millers extend stadium sponsorship deals

Rotherham United has extended commercial deals with two long term partners at the New York Stadium.

Ben Bennett Jnr and KCM have both extended their current deals for a further three years to sponsor stands at the £20m stadium. It follows on from the extension signed last year with Eric Twigg Foods and Pukka Pies for the West Stand. The Ben Bennett name is on the family stand and KCM sponsors the Kop End.

Ben Bennett Jnr is an Eastwood-based steel strip manufacturer that has had a long association with the football club. Mr Bennett, said: "Since my first game as a supporter in 1950 I have always had a strong affection for the club, and all these years later I am still as passionate for the Millers now as I was back in the 50s.

"To come and watch the club in the New York Stadium is marvellous and I am looking forward to the rest of this season and beyond watching along with my family who are also all big Millers supporters."

Steve Coakley, commercial director at Rotherham United, added: "We are very fortunate to have a long-term partner with the passion that Mr Bennett has for Rotherham United. Having the Bennett name above the family stand is a perfect fit with Mr Bennett's children and grandchildren all fans of the club, we couldn't think of a better partner for this particular agreement."

New York Stadium, on the edge of Rotherham town centre, could be on for a record attendance this week as it hosts its third international game. England's under 19 team take on their Italian counterparts, and with discount tickets for Rotherham schools and no segregation for away fans, the attendance could beat the 11,758 record set when Rotherham United beat local rivals Sheffield United in 2013.

News: Last stand for KCM at New York Stadium

Rotherham United has confirmed that local firm, KCM Waste Management will sponsor the North Stand at the New York Stadium.

The Greasborough Road company specialise in recycling, trade waste and skip hire and have signed a three year deal for the final stand with the League Two club.

The home end will be named The KCM Recycling Stand and the company become the fourth company to sign up to sponsor a stand at the £20m stadium, following Eric Twigg Foods, Morrison and Ben Bennett Jnr.

Phil Hickling, managing director at KCM, said: "I have been a fan of the club since I was six and I am tremendously excited about the move to the New York Stadium. I think the Chairman and everyone connected with the club have done a fantastic job and I am extremely proud to be a part of it.

Following the agreement Phil was given a guided tour around the Millers new home to have first hand glimpse of his stand, and was extremely impressed with the brand new state-of-the-art facility.

"I think if you asked most Rotherham fans, we would never have thought the club could move into such a fantastic stadium, but it is really happening, I cannot wait, it looks fantastic."

KCM have also secured a deal to continue the sponsorship of the dugouts for next season, extending an agreement into a third season.

"We have agreed to sponsor the dugouts again and I am hoping to have the grandchildren as mascots for the opening game," added Phil.

"I think we are going to have a great season, we have signed some excellent players and hopefully we can achieve promotion come May."
