News: Rotherham student wins design competition

By

A graphic design student from Rotherham College of Art and Technology (RCAT) has beaten off competition from three South Yorkshire colleges to win the second Business Link South Yorkshire Design Works for Students award. 20 year old, Shane McGarrigle, from Mexborough used his final year project based on promoting an event, business or service in South Yorkshire. Shane is quoted in The Star "The images I created used photography of architecture in the Victoria Quays with illustrations on top - kind of like graffiti with strong colours and blends." The competition aims to encourage the design students to become familiar with the constraints of working on a commercial basis. Shane's prize is an Apple iBook and work experience with South Yorkshire design company, Iris Associates.
