News: Rotherham teacher is top at enterprise

Rotherham showed it was in a class of its own after scooping the prize for enterprise teaching at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Rotherham is acknowledged nationally and internationally as a centre for excellence in enterprise teaching and learning, developed through the enterprise education initiative Rotherham Ready.

Now Rotherham teacher Jenni Logan, from Herringthorpe Infant School proved that nobody does it better – by winning the enterprise teaching award category at the northern regional finals of the National Teaching Awards.

Collecting her award in front of a packed Cutlers Hall in Sheffield, Jenni said: "I am so pleased to have won this award as a foundation teacher, because it recognises that enterprise and developing enterprise life skills is something that needs to happen from the earliest age."

Jenni has helped her school achieve two prestigious national awards for enterprise, including becoming the first Infant school ever to receive the Warwick Platinum Award for Excellence in Enterprise Education. She will now go forward to the national finals of the Teaching Awards in London in October to represent the north.

Rotherham Ready Project Officer Catherine Brentnall said: "Good teachers are inspirational and they deserve our thanks and recognition. We should feel proud in Rotherham to have such passionate and talented teachers working to equip children and young people with the skills they will need to succeed in the future."

This was the third year that a Rotherham teacher won the top prize in the enterprise category, showing that the borough is at the forefront of innovation and excellence for enterprise teaching and learning.
