News: Global Chamber leaders visit Rotherham

By

Key officials from nine global Chambers of Commerce were in Rotherham this month as part of a visit organised by Sheffield Chamber.

The chief executives of Chambers from six different nations, including Finland, Norway, Ireland, Belguim, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates, attended a round-table meeting at the Sheffield Chamber office at Albion House.

Sheffield Chamber chief executive Nigel Tomlinson chaired the meeting which discussed how the Chambers can increase collaboration with each other on initiatives, ideas and projects to support business growth.

Visitors took in a tour of the city, including the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham and Sheffield Hallam University's sports science research facility, to look at the city region's 21st century developments in manufacturing and science.

Nigel Tomlinson, chief executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: "Through the achievements of the Chamber in recent years, Sheffield has gained international recognition, leading to the formation of partnerships with Chambers from around the world.

"This has resulted in Sheffield being invited to join the International Chambers Round Table group, which will be vital in the development of best practice as well as opening up new avenues for business, not only between the Chambers, but also with the respective cities.

"The meeting provided a chance to discuss how we can work together to beat the recession as well as to showcase what Sheffield has to offer to our counterparts from around Europe and beyond."
