News: Bramall completes Rotherham retrofit project
Rotherham social housing contractor Bramall Construction has helped deliver two innovative energy-efficient retrofit schemes in Yorkshire, after it was awarded £300,000 of funding from the Technology Strategy Board's "Retrofit for the Future" competition.
Bramall completed retrofits on ten properties, two blocks of three terraces in Brampton Bierlow, for 2010 Rotherham, and four semi-detached homes in Kettlethorpe for Registered Social Landlord Wakefield and District Housing.
Technology used across the two schemes includes photovoltaic panels, solar thermal tubes, mechanical ventilation systems, biomass heating, and insulation made from sustainable products, such as woodfibre and recycled newspaper.
The Manvers firm was also highly commended in two categories at the Housebuilder Awards 2010, held at the end of October.
The were highly commended in the Sustainable housebuilder of the year category and recognised for their work on one of the UK's largest zero carbon developments in Slough, Berkshire in the Best low or zero carbon initiative category.
The Greenwatt Way development uses the latest construction methods and technologies available to deliver zero carbon housing to Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Bramall Construction is already building Code 6, zero carbon homes for less than £130,000.
Mark Whitley, Pre-Construction Manager at Bramall Construction, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised twice in this year's Housebuilder Awards.
"Sustainability is at the core of our company's agenda and we are leading the way in utilising state-of-the-art eco technology to deliver high level Code for Sustainable Homes developments across the UK."
Bramall was also nominated as a finalist in the Small/Medium Housebuilder of the Year category at the awards.
