News: Rotherham United extend shirt deal

By

Rotherham United has extended their successful away shirt partnership with Rotherham's One Town One Community project as they begin life back playing in their home town.

This year's deal is an extension of the agreement which the club secured for the 2011/2012 season as part of the One Town One Community campaign, which is spearheaded by Rotherham's Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

One Town One Community is about bringing people together in Rotherham, regardless of background, culture or life experiences so they can learn from each other, celebrate their differences and discover what they have in common.

The agreement for the forthcoming 2012/2013 season includes the display of the One Town, One Community logo on the shirt worn by the First Team at all 23 scheduled away games, along with perimeter boards at the New York stadium; space in the home match day programmes to provide information about the latest One Town One Community activities, and player participation in a range of schools and community events.

The shirt was worn recently when The Millers took on local rivals Doncaster Rovers at the New York Stadium.

Councillor Mahroof Hussain, Cabinet Member for Cohesion at Rotherham Borough Council and One Town, One Community partnership representative, said: "It's great that we have managed to seize this opportunity for a second year.

"We are seeing more than ever in this Olympic year that sport is a great leveller, and that is particularly true of football.

"It brings people together, fosters a real sense of community and unites people irrespective of their age, their beliefs and their background.

"New stadium great for Rotherham, and having the One Town, One Community logo on the away shirt is great representation for our town."

Tony Stewart, chairman of Rotherham United, added: "It gives me great pleasure to know that the "One Town, One Community" message will be emblazoned on our away shirts again next season.

"This message will be seen countrywide and will endorse the partnership between the football club and the community, and long may this partnership continue.

"Through the Community Sports Trust, this partnership allows the football club to help play apart in enhancing community cohesion in the town and with the New York Stadium now ready we are set to enhance this partnership even further.

"Like our new home shirt, we have launched a commemorative away shirt with the Rotherham coat of arms on the chest, in honour of our first year at the New York Stadium."
