A brand new restaurant opened by Dearne Valley College in Manvers, Rotherham has been officially launched at an event which welcomed top Yorkshire Chef, Stephanie Moon.

Established in 1976, DVC has its main campus in Manvers and specialises in vocational training and apprenticeships.

Based at the popular Onyx Retail Park nearby, the Griffin Grill will train the next generation of culinary and hospitality professionals whilst offering a contemporary dining experience with a menu of traditional food using locally-sourced ingredients and fantastic service thanks to the talent of its students and apprentices.

Amongst the guests at the official launch were Deputy Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Christopher Middleton with Deputy Mayoress Anne Middleton, and Deputy Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Tim Shepherd, along with representatives from the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, local schools and colleges, and Governors and staff members from Dearne Valley College.

Guests were treated to refreshments and canapés inspired by some of the restaurant's main menu choices which were cooked and served by the students and Apprentices training at The Griffin Grill, whilst VIP guest chef Stephanie Moon delivered a speech, praising the students and the industry-experienced staff for their efforts in successfully opening the new restaurant.

Stephanie has previously worked at restaurants across the world and describes her career highlights as cooking for the Royal State Banquet attended by the Queen under world-renowned Chef, Anton Mosimann OBE, representing the region on BBC's Great British Menu, leading a culinary team at the prestigious Rudding Park Hotel as the Executive Chef, and launching her own Chef Consultancy business.

Martin Harrison, principal and chief executive at DVC (pictured, third left), said at the event: "We were honoured to welcome Stephanie Moon to launch our new venue following her extensive success in the industry, and her ability to encourage our students to reach their potential and aspire towards her ongoing success. The launch of The Griffin Grill is a fantastic feat for the College; not only will it benefit the region's talented young people, but it will also serve as a brilliant new venue for the local business and residential communities."
