News: Young Maria dances her way to success

By

Maria Middleton, one of last year’s winners of the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, has seen her dance business cha-cha-cha its way to success since October. The talented 26-year-old has grown her business from teaching a few school children in tiny church hall to taking over the lease of a converted building at Manor Road, Maltby - and she’s never looked back. She now has more than a hundred pupils of all ages at MKM Dance and Fitness – and is looking forward to her school performing its first Christmas show in November at the Lyric Theatre in Dinnington. Maria said: "My business has just gone from strength to strength. I’m already itching to expand with more space or look to set up in other areas. "Running your own business is a lot of hard work – and I’ve had to sacrifice a lot of things other people my age take for granted – like my social life. But I know if I get this right, I will be able to reap the rewards in the future." Maria won £500 to put towards her business when she won the ‘most determined to succeed’ category in the Young Entrepreneur Awards in October – and reckons the recognition, support and encouragement she received from organisers at RiDO, Rotherham Council’s regeneration arm, helped put her on the road to success. REN spokesman Geoff Link, RiDO’s enterprise manager said: "Enterprising young people like Maria hold the key to our future success and these awards give them an opportunity to shine and get recognised for the good work that they do, as well as a much-needed cash boost." The deadline for the awards is July 18 2008. The overall winner is to be announced at the Chamber awards ceremony presented by Harry Gration in October.
