News: Lifeskills amongst UK's best small companies

By

LifeSkills has risen 21 places to 20th in the Sunday Times Top 100 Small Companies to Work For 2011. The third consecutive year of making the list.

The national company specialises in providing opportunities for young people to break into the world of training and employment and was the only learning provider to feature in the list.

Rotherham born managing director, Spencer Fearn, has developed the company over the last eight years in London and the South East and opened a Rotherham training centre in the town centre last year.

The company behind the list uses employee surveys, questionnaires and work place visits to identify best practice and ranks companies chiefly according to their performance in eight key indicators of staff engagement.

Lifeskills finished 7th in the sub-category best for staff training and scored highly for positivity and motivation.

Like the young people they teach, almost all of the 99 staff at Lifeskills are working towards a qualification. Five former students have joined the ranks, and three of these are working towards management qualifications — and they are all just 23.

LifeSkills has also been awarded Extraordinary Status in the Best Companies 2011 Awards, the elite "Michelin star" rating system for organisations that demonstrate high levels of employee engagement.

Spencer Fearn, managing director at Lifeskills said: "I am absolutely thrilled with the results from the surveys completed by the teams across LifeSkills. We try to ensure that our staff are fully supported both in and out of work and the strong results reflect this and our company culture."
