News: Medical equipment manufacturer moves back to Rotherham

Wassenburg Ltd, which is a world leader in manufacturing endoscope reprocessing products and solutions, has taken a 10,900 sq ft modern warehouse and office unit at Ignite @ Magna Business Park in Rotherham.

The Dutch-owned company is taking a five-year lease, at a headline rent of £8.95 per sq ft at Templeborough.

The move is made possible by global steel business Danieli moving from Templeborough to a new purpose built headquarters in a prime plot on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.

Andrew Betts, Managing Director of Danieli, said: "As part of Danieli’s relocation to the Advanced Manufacturing Park following significant expansion, Knight Frank was appointed to market our former premises which offered a high quality, industrial/business unit, with above average office content. Following strong interest, a letting to Wassenburg was agreed and Nick Wales of Knight Frank Sheffield has been retained to sell the investment."

Rebecca Schofield of Knight Frank, who dealt with the letting, added: “The Ignite at Magna Development continues to prove popular; the premises are of high quality and are well located with easy access to J33 and 34 M1. Unit 4 Ignite was well received to the market and the layout and fit out proved attractive to occupiers. Wassenburg was attracted to the quality of the unit and the split between office and warehouse space, and it is great to see them relocate and expand in the area.”

In 2011 Wassenburg transferred its UK operation from Hellaby to Smithy Wood in Sheffield.

Ignite @ Magna offers easy access into Rotherham and Sheffield. It is also around one mile from Junction 34 of the M1, and also close to Junction 33 of the M1 allowing distribution networks across the entire country. Well known occupiers nearby include ETA, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Parcel Force and AESSEAL.

Wassenburg was established in 1984 by Gerrit Wassenburg, and has developed from a family company into a global player as an expert in all aspects related to automated endoscope reprocessing.

Since its establishment, Wassenburg, with headquarters in The Netherlands, has grown exponentially and has sales offices in The UK, Ireland, France, Germany, the US and an exclusive distributors network in Europe, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.

News: Progress for latest firms expanding onto the AMP in Rotherham

Steelwork erection has completed at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham on the new development for Technicut, the global leader in solid rotary cutting tools for the aerospace industry.

Rothbiz reported last year on plans for a purpose built unit for Technicut to go alongside McLaren.

Construction firm, Britcon, has been appointed to work alongside The Harris Partnership on a 86,800 sq ft warehouse and progress is being made.

The value of this contract is £9m with an anticipated end date of March 2025. Britcon is aiming to achieve a BREEAM status of Excellent for the dedicated building comprising a mix of production, lab, office and meeting room space.

The new location will enable the company to remain local to its origins whilst providing the space it needs to further grow the business.

Also at AMP, a planning application has been approved for a purpose built unit between Brunel Way and the Parkway for Vulcan Engineering Ltd.

Currently based in Sheffield, Vulcan Engineering Limited is part of the wider AES group and specialises in the production of mechanical seals and encapsulated ‘o’-rings. The company has a global presence and is an established world leader in the development and manufacture of high purity, composite encapsulated seals that fulfil a demand in the market where an engineering polymer is either not available or is extremely cost prohibitive.

Having doubled their turnover in the last five years from £15m to £30m as a Group on sealing products, the move is part of expansion plans where turnover is forecasted to increase to £60m within the next five years.

At 52,000 sq ft, the new development would create 110 jobs.

Also fronting the Parkway, work is closer to completion on a new headquarters for global steel business Danieli. The Italian-based group – which has annual revenues of £3.6bn and designs, builds and installs low emission plants for the steel industry worldwide as well as producing quality special steels – commissioned a 47,000 sq ft head office, research and distribution facility having outgrown its site at Templeborough.

Units 8, 9 and 11 on the AMP have also been completed. Landowner and developer Harworth Group has already confirmed that 60% are now let with the remaining entering negotiations.

Calibre Scientific UK and Insight Direct UK are two of the companies expanding at the AMP.

News: Haworth to welcome Danieli to AMP

Global steel business Danieli has committed to a major investment in the UK with the development of a new headquarters in Rotherham.

Rothbiz reported in May that a planning application for the Italian firm had been submitted to Rotherham Council for a 51,000 sq ft facility on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), which is in Rotherham.

The Italian-based group – which has annual revenues of £3.6bn and designs, builds and installs low emission plants for the steel industry worldwide as well as producing quality special steels – is to build a 47,000 sq ft head office, research and distribution facility fronting the Parkway.

Harworth Group plc will develop the new Danieli headquarters at its flagship Waverley site, which is already home to some of the world’s biggest manufacturers including Boeing, Rolls-Royce and the UK Atomic Energy Authority.

The new facility will occupy a prime location within the AMP next to the McLaren Automotive Composites Technology Centre.

Work will start on the project this month and will be completed before the end of 2024.

Rotherham is already home to one of its twelve global design centres - at Templeborough - but the site is now too small for the growing firm.

The new headquarters will support the further growth of Danieli in the UK with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and will increase its distribution capabilities five-fold.

News: Another global firm looking to expand on Rotherham's Advanced Manufacturing Park

A global manufacturer of plants and machines for the metals industry is set to expand with new premises on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham, new plans show.

A planning application has been submitted to Rotherham Council for a 51,000 sq ft facility fronting the Parkway that would house the UK headquarters and laboratory for Italian firm, Danieli.

The Danieli Group designs, builds and sells plants for the iron and steel industry, offering a complete range of machines from primary process management to the manufacture of finished goods (essentially from ore to finished product). Rotherham is already home to one of its twelve global design centres - at Templeborough - but the site is now too small for the growing firm.

Regeneration experts Harworth Group are leading the expansion plans with consultants, Stantec, and architects, The Harris Partnership. Outline approval for new units in this part of the AMP have already been approved.

Matching the successful commercial property on the park, such as the nearby units for McLaren and X-Cel Superturn Ltd, Unit 9 at Seldon Way would inlcude labratory and office space across threee floors, with room included for future expansion.

The plans state: "The proposed development will form one single unit for Danieli; a company who are one of the UK biggest advanced service solutions and consultancies for production and maintenance of metals. Danieli is a full cycle provider from raw materials to finished products in the metals industry and are leading in their field globally. The majority of Danieli's services are lab and/or office based. Danieli are locally based in Rotherham at Ignite Magna Way but have outgrown their current facility and require more space.

"The proposed development is earmarked to become the company's main headquarters in a dedicated building comprising a mix of lab, office, and meeting room space. The new headquarters will allow the company to continue to build upon their success and grow whilst combining many of their businesses on to one dedicated site.

"The proposed development has been futureproofed and includes a second floor of office space which will facilitate employees working in the labs and research spaces. It is envisaged that the second floor will not be occupied from the outset but rather be occupied as and when the company operations demand it and/or as the company grows.

"In short, this application seeks to build on the success of both the AMP and a local company which contributes towards the advanced manufacturing success of the region. The proposed development will facilitate the attraction and retention of highly skilled jobs on the AMP."

In its most recent accounts, Danieli Uk Holding Ltd reported that it had bounced back from the COVID-19 pandemic with turnover doubling to £38m for the year to June 2022. With export accounting for around 50% of trade, the group said that it is well placed to serve the metals industry that is looking to reduce CO2 and is expecting strong demand for its products and services in the scrap metal proccessing sector.

This week, Harworth Group confirmed that construction will commence shortly of an additional 73,000 sq ft pre-let and built-to-suit unit at the AMP. It is already on-site with a further 93,000 sq ft which is due to reach practical completion in autumn 2023.
